Sr. Actuation Design Engineer

What we do:

The Actuation Design Engineer is responsible for the design and development of the flight control actuation system for Supernal eVTOL aircraft. This role is heavily involved in developing efficient actuation design solutions for aircraft flight control surfaces from conceptualizing and design, to prototyping and manufacturing, integration and verification testing, through production support. The role works closely with technical teams including Flight Controls, Electrical, Flight Technology, Airframe, and Manufacturing.

What you can do:

  • Perform actuation system layout, design, and analysis throughout the aircraft development lifecycle including trade studies, conceptual/preliminary/detail designs, engineering release, procurement/manufacturing, and aircraft installation & testing
  • Participate in actuation architecture trades, requirements capture, and interface definition
  • Create 3D CAD models for actuation components, mechanisms, and assemblies
  • Analyze actuation performance including kinematics, load/stress, stiffness, and clearance
  • Generate detail drawings for actuation parts fabrication using GD&T for manufacturability
  • Manage actuation BOM and provide technical support to vendors and manufacturing teams
  • Support aircraft installation and integration, including writing and releasing engineering orders and functional test plans/procedures required for flight test and production aircraft
  • Prepare and communicate design and technical material to management and stakeholders
  • Other related duties as assigned

What you can contribute:

  • B.S. in mechanical or a relevant engineering field
  • 5 years of experience in mechanical design of flight controls actuation (an equivalent combination of higher education and experience maybe considered)
  • Experience with new aircraft development, prototyping, certification, and production
  • Solid understanding of ASME Y14.5 Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
  • Familiarity with any FAA CFR parts 23/25/27/29 or other certification experience
  • Proficient using CAD modeling & drawing tools
  • Proficient using requirements capture and management tools
  • Knowledge of qualification and certification rules applicable to commercial aircraft equipment, including standards such as ARP 4754A, ARP 4761, DO-160, etc
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Self-motivated and forward-thinking personality

You may also be able to contribute:

  • Proficient with 3D-Experience/Enovia/CATIA desired
  • Experience using DOORS NG desired
