Sr. NVH Engineer

Irvine, California

What we do:

Supernal is looking for a Sr. NVH Engineer in the Flight Technology department to support air vehicle design, component test, and flight test with acoustics and vibration analysis and design. The candidate will be responsible for NVH analysis, design, and testing of air vehicles at different stages of development.

What you can do:

  • Perform NVH analysis and testing of air vehicles at varying development stages
  • Conduct acoustics & vibration evaluation during conceptual design development using first-principles analyses
  • Exercise computational simulation capability as designs mature
  • Identify, plan, and implement NVH testing of vehicle components, vehicle models, and full-scale vehicles in laboratory environments and/or flight as necessary for product development and certification
  • Perform NVH simulation at the component and system levels
  • Bring NVH technical skills to flight technology team to accelerate product development
  • Work to establish engineering best practices and standard operating procedures in collaboration with related fields
  • Work closely with the strategy team to ensure acoustics & vibration requirements will produce the desired outcome when they are met
  • Work with the broader engineering team to conduct multi-discipline trade studies to guide design decisions
  • Collaborate with other engineering teams to support environmental qualification activities for vibration (vibration zone and requirements definition, Means of Compliance Demonstration, etc.)
  • May require up to 20% of domestic and international travel
  • Other duties as assigned.

What you can contribute:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent field
  • A minimum of 5-8 years of relevant experience (an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered)
  • Must have a thorough understanding of NVH engineering fundamentals, especially with regards to vertical lift aircraft. The ability to identify and quantify primary drivers of vibration at a conceptual level to inform preliminary design decisions is paramount
  • Must have an independent capability to conduct NVH engineering evaluations of vertical lift aircraft ranging in complexity from first-principles analysis to high-fidelity simulations
  • Prior experience in vibro-acoustics simulation
  • Relevant experience with NVH testing
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Proactive delivery of communication and follow up
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Familiarity with SEA, FEA, BEM, and CAA
  • Must have the ability to independently prioritize and accomplish work within time constraints
  • Self-motivated and forward-thinking personality

You may also be able to contribute:

  • Familiarity with Wave6, VA-One or ACTRAN
  • Basic knowledge of Siemens Test.Lab and MATLAB DSP Toolbox is plus
  • Leverage additional knowledge and capability gained from earning an M.S. or a Ph.D. degree in a relevant engineering field
  • Experience with rotorcraft, turbomachinery, or other relevant vibration analysis tools is desired
  • Experience with vibration testing of in-flight vehicles is preferred
