Sr. IT Systems Engineer - Linux

What we do:

The IT Sr System Engineer is responsible for design, implementation, support, and maintenance of the server & cloud infrastructure of a growing engineering organization. This position reports into the IT department and will work very closely with the R&D engineering organization. This role has a focus on Linux administration.

What you can do:

  • Plan and deploy server/VM resources for R&D specific services including compute, storage, code control, design version control, PLM, license checkout, collaboration
  • Manage and support server/VM resources for core IT systems
  • Monitor performance, capacity, uptime, and other metrics of the systems infrastructure to identify problems early, respond to issues, and provide suggestions for changes or upgrades
  • Quickly respond to and resolve issues and outages
  • Routinely perform testing on business-critical processes such as backups, disaster recovery, and breach response
  • Provide support for advanced and escalated issues
  • Partner closely with members of the product engineering groups to stay on top of requirements and plan for scale
  • Work closely with security and compliance to ensure all systems meet corporate security, governance, and other requirements
  • Maintain an accurate inventory of all managed resources
  • Develop extensive documentation of configurations, procedures, and training material
  • Provide guidance and knowledge to support staff, junior admins, and other colleagues
  • Develop scripts, automation, templates, system images, etc. to streamline and eliminate human error
  • Plan and conduct maintenance windows, notify affected users, and document results
  • Other related duties as needed.

What you can contribute:

  • B.S. in computer science or similar field, or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years of experience in a systems administrator / engineer role (a combination of education and experience will be considered)
  • Experience leading an enterprise infrastructure with a large Linux footprint
  • Hand-on experience working in data center environments and an understanding of related requirements / facility considerations
  • Experience handling a large number of servers and/or VMs
  • Strong experience in Linux operating systems
  • Knowledge of security standard methodologies
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Able to proactively deliver communication and follow up
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Must have the ability to independently prioritize and accomplish work within time constraints
  • Self-motivated and forward-thinking personality

You may also be able to contribute:

  • Candidates with experience supporting product software and hardware development teams and their specialized services are highly preferred
  • Experience running public and private cloud infrastructure
  • Experience with load balancing, high availability, auto-scaling configurations
  • Experience running high-performance compute (HPC) clusters
  • Experience and/or certification with Microsoft Azure – AWS is good too
  • Knowledge or experience with microservices, docker, Kubernetes
  • Knowledge of networking considerations for large server clusters
  • Experience supporting AI / machine learning workloads
