Apply Now Job ID 4953285003 Date posted 02/20/2022

Supernal is at the forefront of creating emerging mobility solutions that will foster the development of human-centered cities. We are designing a completely new electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft tailored to the mobility needs of future cities. This allows passengers a seamless intermodal journey that safely transports them to their final destination. We fuse research in autonomy, robotics, aviation and services to define a new category of mobility for the world’s communities. We believe in creative thinking and collaboration to help build a better mobility experience for everyone, improving people’s ability to move – whether for work or play.

What we do:

The Senior Rotor Dynamics Engineer will support air vehicle design, ground tests, and flight tests with dynamics analysis and design. This role will handle the planning and execution of analysis, design, and testing at varying levels of development. The engineer will interface regularly with the Airframe, VMS, Powertrain, Intelligent Systems, and other groups within Flight Technology.

What you can do:

  • Run rotor dynamics analysis, design and testing of air vehicle designs throughout development
  • Develop aeroelastic models to predict the static and dynamic stability of individual components as well as the entire air vehicle
  • Work with component designers to develop mass and stiffness properties that provide for stable configurations
  • Perform flutter and buffet analyses on the aircraft to identify dynamic interactions between components
  • Evaluate component test and vehicle flight test data, using empirical data to improve analytical predictions and modeling
  • Support the team to ensure global realization of the design plan
  • Work with the broader engineering team to conduct multi-disciplinary trade studies to guide design decisions
  • Contribute to model updates based on test data
  • Perform requirement verification activities in various engineering fields
  • Support test procedure development and test execution
  • Develop engineering tools, as needed, to complete engineering tasks associated with Supernal concepts

What you can contribute:

  • B.S. degree in a relevant engineering field
  • Minimum 10 years of relevant experience (an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered)
  • Experience performing rotor dynamics analysis to evaluate new concepts and improve on existing concepts
  • Experience with innovative, physics-based analysis and design methods
  • An understanding of aeromechanical engineering fundamentals, especially with regards to eVTOL
  • Capability to conduct dynamics and loads engineering evaluations of vertical lift aircraft performance through analysis, test, and a combination of the two
  • Regular and comprehensive communication with the engineering team
  • Experience with rotorcraft or fixed-wing performance analysis techniques
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Proactive delivery of communication and follow-up
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Must have the ability to independently prioritize and accomplish work within time constraints
  • Self-motivated and driven personality
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite

You may also be able to contribute:

  • Master’s or Ph.D. degree in an applicable engineering field
