Manager, Operational Safety

Supernal is at the forefront of creating emerging mobility solutions that will foster the development of human-centered cities. What we do:

The Manager, Operational Safety will develop and implement a Safety Management System (SMS) to support future Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) operations. This role reports directly to the Chief Safety Officer and collaborates with the Flight Test organization as well as other engineering and research and development teams. The role also works with aviation regulators and industry stakeholders. The manager develops processes and procedures consistent with U.S. Federal Aviation Administration regulations. Additionally, the position ensures that all Supernal safety management processes are implemented consistently and in accordance with international Standards and industry standard process. This will include development of emergency response and family assistance programs specific to AAM operations.

What you can do:

  • Develop, build, and manage Safety Risk Management, Safety Assurance, and Safety Promotion processes
  • Manage the Supernal Safety Reporting System, acting as custodian of sensitive information
  • Handle the Supernal Crisis Management Program, ensuring preparedness through the conduct of periodic drills and evaluations
  • Deliver training to ensure that Supernal personnel are appropriately qualified in their responsibilities related to the Company SMS
  • Collaborate with stakeholders responsible for the design and operation of electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft
  • Collaborate with Civil Aviation Authorities and aviation industry partners responsible for the implementation and oversight of Safety Management Systems
  • Represent Supernal on rule-making committees and other venues responsible for development aviation safety regulations
  • Develop an enterprise-wide SMS appropriate for other lines of business and future operators of Supernal aircraft
  • Other duties as assigned

What you can contribute:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in aviation Safety Management or related field
  • A minimum of ten (10) years’ experience in the development and implementation of aviation Safety Management Systems for certificated air operators or aircraft manufacturers (an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered)
  • Experience developing or conducting aviation safety audit programs
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent project management skills
  • Proven ability to manage and analyze safety data
  • Proactive delivery of communication and follow up
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Must have the ability to independently prioritize and accomplish work within time constraints
  • Self-motivated and forward-thinking personality
  • Proficiency with Excel VLOOKUP, pivot tables, MS Office Suite

You may also be able to contribute:

  • Master’s degree or PhD preferred
  • Experience developing international aviation Standards and Recommended Practices desired
